Modernising a health-plan comparison experience
The application supported users browsing health plans and allowed agents to compare different options when helping people understand their coverage.
The application used an established Svelte codebase and depended on several backend endpoints, with data that needed to be brought together consistently across the experience. At the same time, the underlying implementation continued to evolve while the updates were being developed.
My role in practice
I joined as a hands-on frontend developer, working directly in Svelte, TypeScript and Node.js.
My work included building a new navigation experience, collaborating with other developers on a carousel used in the plan-browsing flow, and implementing additional UI updates across the application.
Working with an evolving application
A large part of the challenge was understanding how the existing functionality fitted together while the underlying implementation continued to evolve.
The frontend depended on multiple endpoints and data sources, so changes often involved tracing how information moved through the application and making sure the interface remained coherent as that data was consolidated.
Plan comparison
One of the most useful parts of the updated experience was the ability to view multiple plans alongside one another.
That made it easier for agents to explain differences between plans and gave end users a clearer way to understand their options without repeatedly moving between separate views.
Outcome
The updated experience was positively received by the client and helped make the plan-browsing flow clearer and easier to navigate.
The project reinforced the importance of treating frontend work as part of a wider system rather than as an isolated interface layer. The difficult parts were often at the boundaries: changing data sources, evolving application behaviour, and keeping the user experience coherent while the implementation underneath was still moving.
